On “Mama’s Christmas Pies,” Mike Trask weaves the tale of a traditional Maritime Christmas eve, complete with food, family, friends, and even a little magic. Over an old-school country rhythm, Trask and Menoncle trade off vocal duties, with Menoncle even sharing his family’s personal meat pie recipe (or as he calls it, “pâté”), before ripping into a fiery guitar solo. “Mama’s Christmas Pies” marks a unique collaboration between anglophone and francophone artists from New Brunswick, a rare occurrence even in Canada’s only bilingual province.
