Don’t be afraid of the dark, give yourself “Goosebumps”, the frantic and addictive
new single from New Brunswick-based songwriter Mike Trask. Available April 1, 2022 on all
streaming platforms as part of Mike’s online-only VAULT series.
For the third installment of VAULT, Mike dusts off an experimental demo originally recorded in
August 2018 that has remained unheard until now! On “Goosebumps” Mike teams up with longtime friend and studio tech Paul Gamache, who supplies the track’s guitars and bass, to construct a
track that possesses a retro flair but also remains remarkably contemporary. Julie Aubé (Les Hay
Babies), a frequent collaborator who most recently joined Mike for their duet, the folk ballad “Love
on the Rise” in January 2022, returns with Les Hay Babies band-mate Katrine Noël. Julie and
Katrine deliver engaging vocal performances, as they trade lines with Mike in French and English
over the song’s lethargic climax.
“Goosebumps” possesses a raw, dramatic energy, similar in vein to the bluesy grit of “Great God
Almighty”, and the stripped-down nature of the critically-acclaimed “Love on the Rise”, also
released as installments of the VAULT series. Started in October 2021, the online-only VAULT
series collects archival demos and B-sides that often reflect Mike’s artistic process, and offer a
snapshot to his prolific approach to song craft.
